It’s been a while since I posted any news and thats mainly because its been very busy, but now there are lots of things coming up but firstly I’d like to tell you (and blow my own trumpet) about the fact that 2 weeks ago I became the South East Region Baby (Cherub) Photographer of the year 2011. Not only did I received this wonderful award but allso got an award of excellence and 3 other merits for my baby photography and one merit for my family photography.

These images along with some others are now being enetered into the Master Photograpy National Awards.

But not quite finished! The new look MEP Photography website launched today with some great new content, features and sections which I hope you find useful. The last sections to be completed are the wedding and portfolio sections which should be finished in the next few days. If you have any comments on the site please do get in touch.

In the next few days we will be launching our new monthly free prize draw exclusively for our website customers! All you’ll need to do is signup, enter your details and you’ll be entered into the draw. It’s a as simple as that!

Our month long “Where’s Milly” competition in conjunction with Spirit FM ended on Friday! We will be announcing the winner during drive time on Monday the 23rd of November. So If you entered listen out to find out if you are our lucky winner set to received £1600 worth of photographic prizes!

The winner from the where’s Milly competition is due in this weekend for her photos shoot, She’s very excited and it should be a fun session.

I’m just putting the finishing touches to some new offers for the Baby Club in 2010, we will still offer the 3 sessions and folio for £25 but we will be offering some stunning new alternatives as well, watch this space!

The Beautiful Baby 2010 competition begins on the 1st of February 2010, building on the success of last years competition in conjunction with spirit FM we have made this years competition bigger and better. Running for an extra 10 days this year to try and give everyone a chance (as many people missed out lasy year because we ran out of appointments)

We will have a total of 150 places available and the further through the month the more these places will be limited so please do book early to avoid disappointment. Full information about the competition will be going on line this with with details of the prize and how the competition works.

On Monday I achieved my Licentiate qualification with the Master Photographers Association. I had to submit 20 photos that were then scrutinised by a panel of 5 judges. It is always nerve wracking having your photos ‘judged’  and while I waited patiently outside the small room where the judging was taking place it seemed to take far longer than the 20 minutes it actually took. Finally the wait was over and I had passed!

Pushing myself and my photography forward and developing my skills so that I can give my customers the best photos possible has always been my goal, this qualification is an acknowledgement of the direction I am going in and this is only the first step. I intend and plan to build up this. Next stop Associate!

I will be announcing a number of new offers and some new services in April which I hope people are as excited about as I am sorting out the final details at the moment!

A couple of sneak peaks of what is to come, firstly a fantastic new competition in conjunction with Kodak!

Portsmouth Naval base and the Royal Beach Hotel for the HMS Cossack Association reunion as well as various instant photo events at the hotel.

Publicity photos for Seaford Colleges performance of the Gondoliers.

MyPartyPix instant photos as part of a fund raising event for the NCT. Lots of very fun photos as everyone was up for a laugh which included the feather boas and various other props!

As part of the Master Photographers Association we are very proud to announce that we are taking part in the Kodak portrait awards 2010. This is a fantastic national competition done in conjunction with Kodak the Mater Photographers Association, Photologic and all proceeds of the £1 entrance fee going to the Pace Centre which helps children with physical disabilities.

The way the competition works is that from your shoot at the studio we choose a photo with you to be entered into the competition, we pay your £1 entry fee and take care of the submission.

The closing date for this years competition is the 30th of August 2010. The judging takes place September 2010.

The great thing about this competition is that if you are lucky to win YOU receive the £1000 prize, I receive the title of “Kodak Photographer of the year 2010″ but it is all about the opportunity for you to win!

In order for people to take advantage of this fantastic offer we are offering anyone who would like to come along and be part of this the opportunity for a free sitting (saving £55) if you book your shoot my the 22nd of May to be taken anytime between now and the 26th of June! So you really have nothing to lose!

The one thing we will say is that in order to have a chance to win we need to be doing something that little bit different, so come along with a strange prop, in an outfit for your hobby like a football kit, karate outfit etc. Something that will make you stand out from the crowd! We will be using a range of different lighting and suggesting a few weird and wonderful shots. Since I put any news updates on here, but rtaher than that being because it’s been quiet its been the complete opposite!!

The last few weeks alone has seen football tournaments, swimming galas, work experience students, presentations, dedications and LOTS of babies and families!

There has also been lots of things going on in the background which will hopefully all be revealed in a few weeks time!

At the second attempt little Aimee decided that she did like having her photos taken. It was a wonderful session with some lovely photos and the little video below even managed to bring a tear to the eye of Aimee Mum & Dad. This is why I love my job!

We had a great time on Whale Island in Portsmouth last night for a James Bond themed party. Lots of fun with photos taken inside and out, in the mobile studio and on the red carpet. The 2011 Beautiful Baby Competition launches on the 1st of March this year. It follows the same format as the last 2 years with each entrant comping to the studio for a free mini portrait session where you will select which photo you would like to be entered into the competition.

All of this is absolutely free, and you receive a 4″ by 3″ print of the photo you choose! As with previous years places are very limited andlast year in the final week we had 18 people on a standby list who weren’t lucky enough to be able to enter the competition.

If you are interested then please do get in touch and book as early as possible, the first 2 weeks of the competition are usually the quietest so please don’t leave it too late get booked in early.

The upper age limit for the competition is 18 months

I am planning a Focus group in February to introduce some brand new products and have a chat with new and existing customers to kick start 2011.

The idea is that ‘hopefully’ I can get 10 of you guys to come along (free tea, coffee and refreshments) & each bring along a friend who’s never been to the studio before. It’ll be informal and relaxed and shouldn’t take more than an hour (ish) Some special free gifts for those who attend! So anyone interested please comment below, and leave me a way to contact you.

The proposed dates for the Focus group will be on one of both of the following days depending on how many people signup.

Wednesday February 16th at 1pm
Thursday February 17th at 10.30am

The plan for the meetings is as follows:

1) Quick questionnaire
About 15 or so questions about various things to do with the studio and what we do and how we do it.

2) Hands on with new and existing products
3 exciting new products that I’m excited to show you all and most importantly get your feedback and opinions on these new additions (plus you’ll receive a special voucher off any of these new products.

3) Final thoughts
This will just be an informal chat to round things off having looked at some of your comments and feedback from the two sections.

Refreshments will be available throughout.

The only thing I really ask is that if you must bring a friend along If you have never ben to us before then simply bring a friend along, if you have had photos taken with us before then if you can bring a friend along who hasn’t been here before just so we can get an idea what people think of what we do.

The 2012 product guide is my most exciting to date. There are some truly wonderful new products added to the favourites from the past years. As my customers will know first hand you can tell when I am genuinely excited about a new product and this year I was very excited to launch the product guide and to show off the new products to see what others think.

Skin to skin is the very special type of Low Key portraits that we do for babies and our lucky cherub families or people with a young baby. It’s all about capturing that very special bond between parents and child, it’s not all about smiles and is instead about the emotion and feeling.

Its called skin to skin because we shoot the photos in such a way that there are no distractions just the beauty of a baby in it’s nappy and it being cuddled by it’s mum and dad.

Low key portraits are something that I’m very passionate about and I believe are something a little bt special.

To compliment the traditional high key (white background) photos we specialise in bringing you wonderfully striking photos with a black background and a wonderful use or strong lighting that gives wonderfully sumptuous images that stand out! I believe that in these photos the darkness and black acts like a blanket wrapping itself around the subject, it becomes all about seeing something special in a person or family and this allows that to really shine.

Whether it’s individuals or families this technique gives amazing results.

The Annual Beautiful Baby Competition will be announced soon for 2012. Following the amazing response last year with over 100 babies entering and well over 5000 votes Im hoping that the event this year will be bigger and better than ever with a few new surprises to come!

The Studio is a fun and relaxed place, and we have plenty of toys and props to keep the little ones amused (including Dad’s) and to bring out their best during the Studio session. The studio is deceptively large with the small shop front hiding our 100ft long building including our large studio, dedicated viewing room with projector (almost like being in the cinema – but more comfortable!), our office and print room where we prepare all our own prints.

The Studio has facilities for baby changing (and for adults too!). We have plenty of space too so we can have lots of fun and try lots of things to make your photo session a fun memorable occasion.

The Viewing Lounge is a comfortable area where you choose which images to have framed. Teas, coffees, soft drinks, sweets and biscuits are all available and help to make choosing your photos as much as an experience as having them taken in the first place!

Very important to know is that we have a large pay-and-display car park directly opposite our Studio.

Judged by award winning world renowned Photographer Ray Lowe Paul not only received the award for the Baby Photographer of the year for 2011. Not only did Paul have the winning image but also the 2nd and 3rd place awards as well receiving two merits. This showed the depth of Pauls work. Below are the 3 images:

Launching in February 2012 are our workshops. We will be launching with 6 initially aimed at everyone from beginners to fellow photographers. We will be offering a sneak peaks over the coming weeeks so check back to find out more.
